The Challenge: Establishing Academic Authority

California's bold experiment to create a free, online community college for working adults needed to scale rapidly. However, the college faced a critical transition from a startup mentality (.org) to a mature academic institution (.edu).

The challenge was to modernize the user journey, eliminate UX friction, and establish deep search authority to control the brand narrative, all while catering to a highly diverse, non-traditional student base.
