WebGL-rendered rotating helix using Three.js
A real-time 3D helix rendered with Three.js and WebGL, featuring GPU-accelerated lighting, depth sorting, and smooth animation.
Learn MoreThree.js uses WebGL to render the scene on the GPU. This provides hardware-accelerated 3D rendering with automatic depth buffering, perspective projection, and lighting calculations — all handled natively by the graphics pipeline.
60 flat tiles are stacked vertically, each rotated slightly more than the last. The cumulative twist creates the helical shape. As the global rotation angle increments over time, the entire structure spins smoothly.
Three.js manages a scene graph where each tile and orbiting sphere is a mesh object. The WebGL depth buffer automatically handles occlusion, and Lambert materials provide diffuse lighting without manual calculations.
